I also give away free stuff randomly from my main account, i usually look for noobs just starting with very little equipment, and give yhem whatever i have spare.

Being exposed to the risk of pvp at anytime teaches peple to be more aware of whose around them on map, and therefore players become more skillful.

Have you checked if other clan members can build it, also ensure you have the the required skills, i know upgrading tower required int skills, not sure about bunkers etc.
