Followers/Companions (NOT store bought)?

Hello, I'm quite new to the game and I have a couple questions pertaining to companons. I've checked other posts about pets and companions, but I can only seem to find info about the companions from the donations store. I read that there are some companions that you can hire, but I have yet to find them. So here are my 2 questions,

1 - If possible, where can I hire companions (besides the donation companions)?

2 - How much do they cost, and do I continuously have to pay them for service?

Sorry I'm such a noob, but I'm really hooked on the game and can't afford to keep paying $4 for pets over and over

There are several quests wich allows you to get ahold of free companions.
In alternative, with the 25 INT perk you can start a quest in VUZ that allows you to unlock robotic companions, wich can be made with ingame items and then are free to use or to remake
