Captain Williams quest

In the captain Williams quest, the first thing you do is go to his house and receive a scimitar, then check the other things around his house.
It won't let me find the scimitar that I need to show Padishah. No matter how many times ive pressed his house, it never gives me the option to find the scimitar under his pillow. I'm not sure if I just pressed it already and didn't grab the scimitar by accident because of how many damn bugs spawn there, or if I just can't get the quest dialogue to pop up because of aforementioned bugs.
Please help.
