What: I searched car and then died, relogged - and the loot panel was still there, so I could just loot it on spawn
Why: it can lead to death runs for loot

This is not considered a bug, but more a feature.
Considering that when you die you loose xp and possibly items from your bag, it is a matter of choosing the best option within risks
